(Information from his service record, National Archives of Australia) Wilfred Cyril McCarthy enlisted on the 16th December 1914 in Melbourne, Victoria. He was employed as a motor driver, and stated his next of kin as his mother, Edith Annie McCarthy, of 34, Garden Street, Derby. Five feet four inches tall, he weighed 104 pounds, had a fresh complexion, hazel eyes and fair hair, and belonged to the Church of England. He had two vaccination marks on his left arm, a scar on his chin and a scar on the palm of his right hand.
